Villa Alinea
About the Project
Modern Bali x Middle Eastern
Design
This is one of our international architectural projects. It consists of a villa complex of 14 villas and an entertainment centre, which are being constructed on Al Marjan Island in the United Arab Emirates.
Villa Alinea takes the Balinese pavilion to the Gulf. The five-bedroom design is a crisp white two-storey house with stone-clad panels, balconies behind glass and dark hipped roofs, plus a timber pavilion on the roof terrace for shade. At the front, a stone-clad wall and a small pavilion roof sit over the entrance beside a covered parking court.
A long pool runs down a side courtyard between the house and a stone-faced boundary wall, ending at a pool bale. The bale is where the two traditions meet most clearly: a Balinese timber roof frame with a geometric lattice skylight at its peak, patterned tiles underfoot and a stone wall with a lit display niche behind the sofa. A pierced lattice panel also appears on the garden elevation, between the upper balconies.
Inside, the living and dining rooms sit under exposed dark timber beams with cove lighting, and the bedrooms pair timber floors with stone or textured feature walls behind the beds. The bathrooms mix blue patterned tile with grey stone, backlit mirrors and a fitted bath. Alinea was designed as one of 14 villas in a complex on Al Marjan Island in the UAE, alongside an entertainment centre, and sits among Balitecture's international projects.
