Villa Hijau

As its name suggests, Villa Hijau has touches of green throughout the design, both inside and outside. The lush gardens are a staple in modern Bali design, combined with interior gardens and hanging plants around the facade. There are many other green elements, from bathroom tiles to the textiles used in the sunken sofa.

Photographed as a finished house, Villa Hijau is a three-bedroom Modern Balinese villa in Bali designed by Balitecture. Two white two-storey blocks with timber-lined soffits face the garden, joined by a glazed link in the middle. In front of them, the pool sits up on a plinth of random stone with its outer face clad in green tiles, so from the lawn it reads as a block of colour.

Inside, the main space rises through both floors. An open-tread timber stair on a black steel spine climbs past a wall of dark speckled stone, over a bed of pebbles and planting. The dining table and kitchen bar sit beneath rattan pendants, and the living room steps down into a sunken lounge with white cushioned seating, a timber ledge around it and full-height glass onto the garden. A coffered timber ceiling hangs over the lounge.

One bathroom has a glass roof on a timber grid above a freestanding bath, with a speckled stone wall and a planted pebble bed behind the shower glass. Bedrooms open onto the pool deck through sliding glass, and one has a wall of woven plates behind the bed. At the end of the deck, a timber pergola shades the outdoor dining table.
