Villa Rubia

Villa Rubia is a beautiful home that mixes modern Balinese and Middle Eastern designs. With five bedrooms and lots of comfortable spots to relax, like a sunken sofa and special seating areas, it's an inviting place to stay.

Designed for Turks and Caicos, Villa Rubia is a five-bedroom house laid out in an L around a lawn and a raised pool. The pool's sides are clad in stacked stone and bordered with white pebbles, and a timber deck steps down beside it with loungers, umbrellas and a pair of clam-shell daybeds in woven rattan. A frangipani grows out of the deck itself.

The facades are white boxes trimmed with angled timber-slat fascias that frame the upper-floor glazing, with vertical timber slats between the volumes and stacked stone at ground level. The Modern Balinese influence shows most in the covered outdoor dining room: a slatted timber ceiling, a stacked stone wall with a wood-fired fireplace and log store, a marble-topped bar with a fluted timber front and woven drum pendants over the table. Nearby, a sunken lounge with a firepit is set into the deck.

The living room is double height, with a gallery above and a stacked stone wall running the full height behind the television. Besides the bedrooms, the plan has a study with two desks, a home salon with a barber chair and wash basin, and a walk-in wardrobe with lit shelving. Showers are stone-clad, and one bathroom opens onto an outdoor shower on a bed of pebbles.
