Villa Sahela

Villa Sahela leans into tropical warmth, built around a double-height living and dining room with clerestory windows running along the top. Recessed timber ceilings carry the same warm finish through the rest of the house, giving it a cosy, lived-in feel. Tall timber-framed glass doors open onto the pool terrace and the garden.

Villa Sahela has one bedroom and the proportions of a much larger house. The pool runs the full width of the garden front in green stone, and two round rattan daybeds under square umbrellas sit on a stone terrace between the water and the doors. A moulded white cornice runs around the facade above the ground floor, which gives this Modern Tropical design a more formal line than most.

Beyond the double-height living room, timber joinery carries on into every other room. The kitchen has a timber island with black stone counters and rattan pendants, along with open shelves and timber cabinets. The study has a timber desk, woven cabinet fronts and a daybed under sheer curtains. In the bathroom, twin arched mirrors hang over a timber vanity, a woven timber screen half-hides a second basin, and open wardrobes stand alongside.

The bedroom has a canopy bed under a timber ceiling and glass doors straight out to the garden. Outside, the design adds a walled shower courtyard open to the sky, with a stone-tiled wall and terracotta pots, and a covered garden lounge with rattan seats, a hanging egg chair, trailing plants and a carved stone panel. The entrance courtyard is paved in grey stone, with a single potted palm by the doors.
