Villa Tundra

Villa Tundra is a pair of two-storey, one-bedroom villas with flat roofs, deep timber-lined overhangs and full-height glass, each above its own raised pool. Inside, an open kitchen and living space with a floating steel-and-timber stair opens to the pool deck through wide sliding doors. Timber, concrete and stone carry through the rooms, and the bathrooms are tiled in blue and green.

Villa Tundra sets two one-bedroom villas side by side, either side of a narrow central block faced in stone, and from the garden the pair reads almost as a single house split down the middle. Each half has its own pool, raised above the lawn on a long retaining wall of rough grey stone and lined in blue-green mosaic that carries over the overflow edge.

Inside, the living room steps down into a sunken lounge with green upholstery, and the kitchen beyond has a concrete island fronted in green tile, lit open shelving and cane pendants under a slatted timber ceiling. The stair is a run of thick timber treads on a dark steel spine, with pebbles and planting underneath. Concrete floors and pale walls keep the timber from crowding the room.

The bedroom has a timber platform bed, a rattan-fronted wardrobe, a desk by the glass and a ceiling fan set into timber boarding. The bathrooms come in two colourways, one blue and one green, each with twin oval mirrors over a floating timber vanity, a freestanding tub and a glass shower. On one pool deck, a carved stone panel stands against the wall. Modern Tropical in style, the pair is designed for a compact site in Bali.
