Delgado Villa

Three-bedroom Delgado Villa, 231m² build. The plan uses a curved volume that is unusual for Bali - most contemporary local builds default to orthogonal. Mediterranean detailing throughout, with a sunken sofa as the centrepiece of the main living area.

From the driveway, Delgado reads as a white block with its edges rounded off. The parapet curves over the top of the walls, the upper windows are tall black-framed arches with timber panels beneath them, and a breeze-block screen fills part of the ground floor. The car pulls in under the upper storey, next to an arched timber front door and a planted bed along the wall.

Inside, the three-bedroom plan gathers around a sunken lounge that wraps an indoor garden of palms. Above the planting, a floating stair of timber treads on a dark steel spine climbs a wall of white stacked stone. The kitchen and dining area sit under exposed timber beams, with a live-edge dining table, woven pendants, arched black-framed windows and a sliding barn door.

The bedrooms keep the Mediterranean thread going. Arched recesses behind the beds are inlaid with flat stones and lit from within, dried-grass pendants hang low beside them, and the bathrooms pair black-and-white patterned tile with floating timber shelves and backlit mirrors. Behind the house, a slim pool runs beside a timber deck to a white garden wall with its own arched recess. The Modern Tropical design puts 231 square metres of floor area over two levels on a 190 square metre plot in Bali.
