Praya

Three-bedroom villa designed for a riverside plot in Nyanyi, with the jungle pressing up to the boundary on one side. The living spaces orient toward the view; the bedrooms wrap the quieter side of the lot. 180m² build, 600m² of land, Modern Tropical detailing throughout.

Praya puts a 180 square metre, three-bedroom house on a 600 square metre plot, which leaves most of the land to garden. The renders show a two-storey wing under a low, wide roof whose timber soffit reaches well past the walls, joined to a single-storey wing whose flat roof is planted along its edge behind a slim railing. One tall end wall is pierced by a grid of small square openings.

The living spaces open to the garden through floor-to-ceiling glass. A sunken lounge sits in front of a floating stair with timber treads and black steel rails, and under the stair a bed of white pebbles holds a few tall cacti against a wall of dark textured stone. The kitchen and dining area run behind it, with rattan-panelled cabinets, a slatted timber screen and cane pendants over the table.

Outside, a timber deck wraps the pool, and a timber pergola with a fabric shade covers one corner by the water. In the bedrooms, woven panels are set into timber ceilings, the wardrobes are fronted in rattan and the beds sit low on timber platforms. The bathrooms combine stone walls, round mirrors and black-framed glass, and one sets its tub in front of a window onto planting. There is a separate laundry too. Modern Tropical detailing runs through the whole design, drawn for a site in Bali with dense trees along one boundary.
