Serene Bliss Villa

Three-bedroom villa with an angular roof and a timber-clad facade - closer to a tropical lodge than a typical Bali villa. 335m² build, slightly elevated from the street. The angled volume is shaped to drive natural cross-ventilation.

A steep, dark-shingled roof drops from a high ridge almost to the first floor of Serene Bliss, and beside it a boxy upper volume is clad in vertical timber and framed in black steel. A balcony with a fine cable balustrade runs along the front, and the house sits up behind a long white retaining wall planted with shrubs, with parking to one side.

Under that roof, the three-bedroom plan opens into a double-height living room. A floating timber stair rises past full-height glass, the lounge sits sunken into a timber deck, and planting comes right up to the windows. The kitchen island is white with a fluted timber front. Through the glass, a covered terrace holds a pool table, a long outdoor dining table and a barbecue against walls of dark lava stone, with a pool lined in deep green tile at the edge of the deck.

The bedrooms are calmer, with concrete floors, timber wall panels, woven wall pieces and backlit mirrors. One bathroom puts a freestanding tub in a small walled courtyard open to the sky; others use lava-stone feature walls, twin basins and black fittings. There is a separate laundry. The design covers 335 square metres on a 350 square metre plot, Modern Tropical in style and drawn for a site in Bali.
