Villa Aina

Two-bedroom Villa Aina, two storeys, 180m² build. Mediterranean detailing - whitewashed walls, arched openings, exposed natural stone. Open ground-floor plan; bedrooms upstairs with terraces over the pool.

Balitecture designed Villa Aina in a Mediterranean style, as a set of crisp white blocks around a small pool courtyard in Bali. A white steel frame strung with rope netting hangs over one corner, throwing a diamond pattern of shadow across the walls. The pool has a shallow sun ledge with two white woven loungers sitting in the water, and the deck around it is laid in irregular pale stone.

Arched timber doors and arched plaster niches repeat through the house under woven rattan pendants. The living room drops a couple of steps into a sunken lounge of white cushioned seating, and a black steel stair with open timber treads rises from the same space. The kitchen is white, with timber cabinet fronts and a timber-topped island.

Both bedrooms pair a timber bed frame with a log side table, and one opens onto a balcony above the pool. The bathrooms carry the white through, with a freestanding tub on a bed of pebbles and rattan-framed round mirrors; one has a breeze-block window for air. On the pool terrace, a long teak dining table stands beside a straw parasol.
