Villa Kemala

Two-bedroom Ubud villa in Pesestanan, with a light material palette: white walls, soft timber, pale tile throughout. The living areas open onto the pool deck and the bedrooms get their own dedicated outdoor terraces. 241m² build on a 300m² plot, which is generous for a Bali two-bedroom.

From the street, Villa Kemala gives little away. The renders show a white boundary wall, a carved timber door in a stone surround, and a gate of dark split-stone panels with narrow slots between them. Behind it the house rises as white cubes, one wrapped in a screen of vertical timber battens, with a rooftop bale under a shingle hipped roof at the top.

On the ground floor, a pool runs alongside a timber deck, sheltered by a timber-lined overhang on slim white columns. The kitchen has timber cabinets and a stone-tiled wall, with a dining table and woven pendants in the same room, and an open-tread timber stair with a glass balustrade climbs beside a tall window. A walled side garden holds an outdoor shower against grey stone, with stepping stones across the grass.

Upstairs, both bedrooms have timber four-poster frames under hipped timber ceilings, and one is drawn with a massage table by the window. Bathrooms are lined in pale marble-look tile, with timber vanities, bamboo blinds and a freestanding bath. Up on the roof, the bale shades a pair of loungers beside a white breeze-block screen. Kemala is a two-bedroom Modern Bali design for a plot in Ubud.
