Villa Luwih

This villa nails modern tropical living with style and ease. From the moment you step through its unique entrance, you're greeted by warm wooden details, lush greenery, and a sparkling private pool that instantly sets the tone. Floor-to-ceiling glass lets the outside in.

The entrance to Villa Luwih is a pair of carved Balinese timber doors set between walls of random stone, up a short flight of steps from the street. Beside it, a flat white canopy shelters the garage behind a vertical timber-slat door. The house steps back from the road, with planted terraces on each level and a tree rising beside the upper floor.

On the garden side, a long, narrow pool runs the length of the house, with a glass fence along one edge and a stepping-stone path through the lawn beside it. Double-height black grid glazing faces the water, and vines trail from the upper edge across the glass. Inside, a timber stair with a glass balustrade is screened by a frame of timber and black steel shelving, with the laundry tucked beneath, and the kitchen pairs timber cabinetry with a white island and rattan pendants.

On the roof terrace, a pergola roofed in wavy timber rods shades a dining table for eight on a timber deck, backed by an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue set against a dry-stone wall. A timber swing bench and a lounge with a fitted sofa face out over the trees. Below, the three bedrooms of this modern tropical villa in Bali include a room with twin rattan beds, and one bathroom has a double vanity with backlit mirrors.
