Villa Umayu

Three-bedroom Villa Umayu, 169m² build. Semi-open concept - interior walls only where privacy requires them, otherwise sightlines run the full depth of the plan. Modern Tropical detailing with natural finishes throughout.

Rice fields run right up to Villa Umayu, and the upstairs bedrooms look straight out over them. The concept render shows the three-bedroom house raised on a stone retaining wall above the paddies, its main block under a single-pitch roof lined in timber. The photos of the finished villa, which Balitecture designed, show white walls with timber-lined soffits and a screen of rounded timber pieces hung in a grid, filtering light onto the pool terrace.

The pool sits in a small courtyard, edged in pale stone, with a red-toned timber deck, fixed timber benches and a hanging rattan egg chair. Inside, the living room is double height around a sunken lounge with a teak root table, set against a wall of dark, porous stone.

The stair is open, with thick timber treads on a black steel stringer, so nothing blocks the view through the house. The kitchen pairs timber cabinets with a pale stone island and a strip window over the bench, under a ceiling panel of split bamboo. Bedrooms have headboards in a woven timber lattice, and bathrooms use river stone basins on stone-topped vanities and deep green glazed tiles in the shower. The Modern Tropical palette is kept to white, warm timber and stone, on a 150 square metre plot in Bali.
