Tropical Tulum
Casita Pasir

About the Project
Tropical Tulum
Design
Casita Pasir is Desa Hut 5, the one-bedroom Tulum-style casita at our Desa Hut development in Kerobokan, photographed here as built. Under a Galam-wood ceiling, a glass-walled timber pavilion opens onto its own private pool, with patterned roster screens, a desk, a kitchenette and an outdoor bathtub in the garden. The design renders it was built from follow further down the page.
The pool at Casita Pasir runs the full length of the glazing, then turns to wrap a pale stone deck, which puts the bed, the desk and the loungers within a step or two of the water. After dark, the lit pool throws its glow back through the glass into the bedroom. A hanging egg chair and woven timber lounge chairs sit out on the deck, under the same canopy as the room.
Overhead, the galam-stick ceiling is laid in angled panels between timber beams and carries on past the glass, so the ceiling looks the same from the bed as it does from the deck. Above it, the flat roof is a thin white slab. Roster blocks form a patterned screen at one side of the deck and again behind the kitchenette, where lit timber shelves sit against them over timber cabinets and a black sink. A concrete counter with two chairs serves as the desk, facing straight into the garden.
The bathroom is split in two. Inside there is a concrete double vanity under black-framed mirrors; outside, a freestanding tub stands alone in a garden screened with bamboo and banana plants. Where the pool meets the planting, its overflow edge is clad in rough stone. Balitecture designed this Tulum-style casita as one of the one-bedroom villas at Desa Hut in Kerobokan, and these photographs show it as it stands on its 162 square metre plot.
